Part 2 , Lesson 1 : Introduction to Internet of things (IoT) with Menya IoT kit.

IoT has many definition but the simplest one is that internet of things is a platform where regular devices are connected to the internet ,so they can interact ,collaborate and exchange data with each other.

Things refer to physical things existing in the physical world and are capable of being sensed , Actuated (controlled) and connected. Examples include physical Environment , Industrial robots and Electrical equipment.

Image 1 : Home appliances connected to the cloud.

IoT in homes is mostly about automation which is the ability to control domestic appliances by electronically controlled, internet-connected systems. It may include setting lighting systems and setting alarms and home security controls, all connected by a central device and remote-controlled by a mobile app.

History of IoT

Why do we need IoT ?

IoT wants to connect all potential objects to interact each other on the internet to provide secure, comfort life for human. here are some need of IoT :

•Too many places to be at the same time.

•Precision and accuracy

•Reduce the cost of man power

•Data for further analysis and understanding

Internet of things flow

This is basically the process it takes for an IoT device to make a full cycle from collection of data ,analyze data to get valuable information and finally act on your data.

Internet of things basic Architecture

The basic IoT Architecture is composed mainly by 3 components

1. Device

A device is a piece of equipment with a capability to communicate and an optional capability of sensing , actuate ,data capture and data storage.

2. Back end(cloud)

Back end server(s) , service endpoint “ in the cloud” or local . Provides data to clients , receives commands.

Can provide Storage or data analysis

3. And client (app / dashboard).

•Client app , example dashboard or 3rd party service client.

•Reads measurement data from devices via backend .

•Writes control data to the device via backend.

•Multiple client apps can share a backend .

@manzi thank you for you question, the cloud in simple word is referred as an online storage of data where you can access your data using any of you devices. for example this website you are using to learn is stored in the cloud (or hosted servers). thats why i can still access your comments even if am using a different device , what matters is i have credentials to access my account and view my data. let me share with you this link for more clarification, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu4FYSFeWqg . so IoT use the same concept as it send / receive data to/from cloud (servers).

isn't the "cloud" a medium that the data move from the device to the client, plz help!, i didn't understand well.
